Chapter 384: Uni

Hi guys, I'm back! Maybe not for long since I don't really have time for anything now, except for studying of course... now that uni is so busy... and tough...

Anyways, I doubt anyone will read this post after my long hiatus from here... doubt anyone with that dedication to follow a dead blog every day till now haha. But oh well, I shall pretend that (or should I say hope that) some soul (lucky enough?) will come here and glance at this post haha.

I might continue blogging if I realise that there are still people interested in this site.. and if time permits of course... since alot of my time is spent on school now... arggghhh.. save my world.

Ever since entering Uni, I discovered that university maths is too drastic a change from JC, it is a serious leap of faith... where your linear algebra module, which initially u thought u will survive... ended up being not so linear after all... calculus for computing is still ok at the moment, and I honestly, hope, pray, eat vitamins that it will be fine till the end. Discrete structures shouldn't even be a Comp Sci mod.. its a maths module... and it is simply. mind. blowing. abstract level to infinity and beyond! Nothing makes sense.. "everything in this module is abstract" - quoted from my TA (whose name I can't remember.)

Programming Mod is getting harder and tougher... doesn't look on a good note either.
My critical thinking mod is just.... beyond words... it's like a philosophical GP again.. dang.

I hope I can survive uni, in one piece. Till then.

Chapter 383: The Final Road

Been a long time since I last blogged. I think I'm slowly losing interest in blogging..this may be my last blog entry, I don't know yet.. I'll see how it goes.

Lots of things happened recently... to the extent some were forgotten.

Went to my first Jay Chou concert last friday. Very exciting and nice atmosphere.. would like to experience it again next time round.. hopeful of lobangs for tickets haha. It is just too difficult for me to queue for them... Gonna look for more connections.
Bought an opus keychain for my sis, but she says that she prefers the gong gong keychain.. ah...
Brought alot of light sticks home, kope some from those that people abandon as well haha.
Then, I went to Ice Cube around chomp chomp area to eat ice cream with my cousin.

Been running every week on 1 day of the weekends.. around Punggol Connector Park. Nice place to run with good scenery, haha, good motivation for the run.

Till then

Chapter 382: Down to Town

Last Sunday, I went to Plaza Singapura to meet my friends. Liangxing came first, followed by Jefferson and then Gam. And dear Zhenglin is nowhere to be found. It turns out that he is the only one who chose a different exit from the 4 of us... Anyways, we went to eat at Hot Tomato after a long discussion. The waitress gave us a table with 3 tables and 6 seats for 5 of us.. but Zhenglin told her that we want the table with one long table and 2 sofa seats.. he claimed that it is "more loving" that way for the 5 of us... cause 3 people have to squeeze in 1 sofa.. bringing us closer together and thus more loving.

We then went to the theatres as we planned to catch a movie.. but it turns out that there are nothing nice to watch as most of us have already watched the ironman 3 movie... So, change of plans it is. We went to the arcade. I'm not really interested in it as I deemed arcade as a waste of money... spend alot of money for a few seconds of thrill..not worth it. Fast money.
So, Jeff said he will treat us, yay!
So we played the racing game. Kinda suck at it as I don't play racing game ever in my childhood haha. And my driving skills are lousy at that high speed. And I'm a safe driver, speeding is just not my thing.

We then went to play LAN. There was this special package: 3 hrs for only $7, so we took it and went on to play for 3 hrs straight, ranging from Counter Strike to Battlefield3. Hell loads of fun there. Never knew battlefield was quite a good game actually..

We then went home afterwards, while I went to my grandparent's house.

This Sunday (today) is a Mother's Day, so I wish my mother and all other mothers in the world a very  Happy Mother's Day!

Chapter 381: The most important day

1st May: Went out with my family to Parkway Parade to dine at Swensens. Wasn't really a good experience as the order was not well taken... In the wrong order, there was a dish (ice-cream actually) called The Rock. They missed out my favourite Cookie Summit. Argh.
Went to NEX after that to meet Nick. I hereby thank him for the birthday present of a Jay Chou poster. We had a massive change of plans. We changed the venue from AMK to NEX to Plaza Singapura. And then I followed his wrong leadership to go to the circle line... when taking the purple line is more than twice as fast.. so, we drop after 1 stop and went back to Serangoon via the opposite train... then took the purple line.
So, we went down to Plaza Sing and went straight to purchase tickets for Iron Man 3 movie as it is selling fast everywhere (reason why we changed out of NEX is that the seating for that movie are only left with front row seats.) So, we got the fifth row seat at 9pm at Plaza Sing. We then went to search for food. And took a long time as we skip those places with long queues. We then decided to settle for some Japanese Restaurant (Hifumi) there. It was well value-for-money. $12.99 for a main dish with buffet-style-side-dishes, and $1.99 for free flow of drinks. Very worth the money to dine there.
We then went to watch the show. It was more interesting than I thought it would be.
We then took cab home. The taxi driver's driving was damn frightening. First time did I see trees and surrounding buildings past me at such a lightning speed... and the lane changing and overtaking is shockingly fast. I hope never to sit on this taxi ever again... quite life-threatening although (I have to say) his skills are quite good.

3rd May: Went out to Vivo City to celebrate my sis's birthday. We ate at Crystal Jade Restaurant. This, however, is not worth the money... it is rather expensive... the receipt was scary, the price was shocking, the values are underestimated. Anyways, belated happy birthday to my sis!

---

Ben wants to buy a custom-made car. So, he went to a factory and spoke to the manager about it.
Ben: Hi, I would like a custom-made car.
Manager: Sure, but you will have to show us the car first then we'll know how to make it.

Chapter 380: Fulfilling Days

On a friday night, I went to the Mess with Nick. Saw Joel there, who is earlier than us. We ate some food (Fried hokkien mee is the main dish.) And got a can of drink each. They are all free! Or rather, they do cost us money... a monthly subscription fee to the mess. Since the money must be deducted regardless whether you go to the mess, might as well make good use of it and enjoy free food and drinks there haha. Joel and I then decided to go for a game of foosball. The table here feels smoother and the ball travels faster and its easier to anyhow volley the ball across the field haha. It was rather fun game we had.
Nick then forced me to sing some songs... which was rather embarrassing as my voice is not there yet. But his singing was very good to me.. So my voice felt inferior to his.. Ok, shall stop talking about singing. We then drank a cup of tiger beer each. We then went home after that.
What an enjoyable night with everything free!

Saturday: At evening, I went out to meet Darren Leong, Nich Khaw, Shili and Bryan. After not knowing where to eat due to long queues everywhere at NEX, we decided to go somewhere else to eat. As shili needed to collect some assignments at NUS, we decided to go there first before eating at Star Vista @ Buona Vista. So, Bryan drove us there all the way to NUS.. only to find that she couldn't collect the assignments, which meant a wasted trip. We then went to Star Vista, and decided to eat at Itacho Sushi. As I am not a fan of sushi, I ordered Chicken Terriyaki rice and ate a duck meat. (or whatever it is called.) We then went to buy icecream from some jap food mart. They then decided to throw the dry ice into the water (fountain?) and we just see smoke coming out from the water. Anyways, the green tea icecream from there was nice.
Bryan is nice as he drove every one back home.

Oh, and I forgot to say our original plan was to catch a movie... but it ended up with eating only haha.

Tonight, I went for some cohesion and farewell dinner thing, and ate at Ssikkek Korean Grill BBQ.
So sorry that my friends have to cook everything as I know nuts about cooking. The food was nice, and we actually added alot of seasonings and spice and we turn the korean-style-bbq into one of deep-stir-frying of our food.

Chapter 379: The past weekend

On a Friday night, Chih Siong sent me a SMS. He told me to meet at "bugs tomorrow". So, I assumed that that was a typo and he really meant "Bugis". So, I replied ok. After that, I start to be a little paranoid... maybe there really is such a shop/place called "bugs", just that I am not aware of it... If that happens and I did not clarify, then I will be a stupid fool waiting alone in Bugis for nobody... while the rest are wondering and waiting impatiently at "bugs".
I clarified with him and it really is "Bugis" thankfully.. orelse I do not know how to locate "bugs". Maybe google maps?

Saturday night, I travelled to Bugis. As usual, when I'm early, no one is there. So, I waited there. Awhile later, CS appeared and told me that Prashaanth told him that he has already reached.. but I didn't see him. Just after CS completed his sentence, I turned to my right and saw Prashaanth there... "hiding" at 1 corner. No wonder I didnt spot him.

So, we went around Bugis looking for a suitable gift. We looked at wallets at the "Wallet Shop". Then, we looked around at lots of things - from belts to ties to watches to caps to shirts. At that point, we somehow thought that we're just spending time window shopping... cause we'll most likely be buying the wallet at the end of the day. At the end of the day, we glanced upon a free lucky dip at G2000. So, Prash tried and got a 40% voucher. So, we decided to just buy something there. We then saw that the best prize from the dip was 50% discount voucher. So, CS and I went to try too... and both of us ended up getting 30% vouchers. We got a tie in the end, paid with 40% discount voucher.

So, our present to Arvind for his birthday is 1 tie plus two 30% vouchers. What a nice present and brilliant idea we got there, don't you think so?

We then headed over to "Landmark Village Hotel" for Arvind's birthday party.
Another rich kid, I'm the poorest kid around.
The party was quite good, only thing is that its Indian food and Tamil music. But that doesn't really matter much since food and music are universal. Oh, and the chocolate cake was great, damn nice.

On a Sunday, my family and I went to my grandparents' place, before we headed over to offer our prayers to our ancestors. We also prayed at the "tua pek kong" temple. This time, when I was given candles to lit, I told them that they forbid lighting of candles. I know that because I am guilty of breaching that rule 2 years consecutive previously.. and now I have learnt and will not make the same mistake again. Those who do not learn from History and condemned to repeat the same mistake.

Anyways, I finally got the concert tickets for OPUS thanks to my sis and her friends!

Chapter 378: SAFTI MI

At around 3.15pm, I received a SMS from Shili, asking me to be punctual and not to be late. So, I changed and rushed out of my house and took LRT then MRT to Serangoon. When I was at Buangkok MRT station, Nich Khaw (nk) called me and asked me why I still so far from Serangoon... I was shocked a little, maybe everybody has reached Serangoon already and they are all waiting for me.... When I reached Serangoon, I used the quickest pace to walk/run to the circle line platform... only to see Desmond Ser and Bryan Heng walking there too. Then we saw nk sitting there, who thought the meeting time was 3.30pm. He was early by 15 mins. So, the 4 of us are present at 3.45pm. And where is shili? So much for be punctual. She arrived 4 mins later and we went to take train all the way to Buona Vista then to Joo Koon (first time going there.)

We then rushed to SAFTI MI through feet. We then took a shuttle bus to reach the parade grounds. We were still early. And even at 5.30pm, the event still hasn't started yet... (it was already 15 mins past the stipulated timing) There were limited seats left at the time we reached... and those seats are mostly blocked by a pillar.... what best brains of construction planning.

So, the parade started. Marching, singing, speech, inspection of parade etc.

There was this part where they did a slow march up the spectators' stand. So, my friends decided to be funny. Desmond recorded the whole thing. Shili kept saying "Hi Darren" repeatedly, nk was making some background music, and this caused Darren to almost laugh while trying to keep his serious face on. The usher saw and started laughing to himself.

We then took a picture with him later on, and then we went to Jurong Point as dinner is only catered to family members? (I think.) So, we left without Darren, while the parade ended prematurely due to inclement weather.

We went to eat at "Ambush". A fast casual European Dining place, but the "fast" doesn't seem to be true as we waited quite long, probably due to the massive amounts of people dining there at that time. The food is not bad, the price is very bad. One point in time, nk was playing with a bottle, which he claims to contain rice grains.
He then asked me: What is this rice grain used for?
I replied: When you don't have enough rice in your food, you can add the rice grains in.
He then asks: What if I keep shaking this?
I replied: Then it will turn into porridge.

We then went home respectively through the train. (except for nk who went to his friend's house.)

Chapter 377: April

Before going into April, lets talk about the last Saturday before April. I finally drove my dad's vehicle for the whole journey on that day. I drove from my house to the Punggol shopping centre all by myself, which included the parking part haha. Reversing was ok, but correction after that was terrible lol... even with my dad's guidance... haiz.

---

And now we come to the first day of April.. where alot of things have to be taken with a pinch of distrust. Cos it is the legendary April Fool Day. But jokes and pranks are almost non-existent on this day already... maybe because of our age. No one tried to do any April Fool joke on that day, to my surprise. But it is kind of weird.. whatever people say, I will need to hesitate to figure if it is a joke or the reality...

And whatever I say, I have to hope that people will not treat it as a joke on that day... haha. Tough trying to pass that day, isn't it?

Anyways, soccernet tells me that United have lost 1-0 to Chelsea in the FA Cup. I hope that is an April Fool Day joke... but apparently it isn't...

Recently, I'm kind of addicted to the game Candy Crush. But no way am I spending money on this game, just for the fun of it, being a free game.

Chapter 376: Movie @ AMK

Should have posted this long ago but I forgot to.. Went out with a few of my sec sch friends on last Sunday. Jeff asked Liangxing, zhenglin and me out. I messaged Jeff to tell him that I'll be late. No reply. When I reached, I saw only lx and zl. They told me they do not have my number lol, and jeff would not be here as he is down with flu.
Jokingly, I told them that next time when Jeff asks us out, we also call him at the last min to tell him that all of us are down with flu.. so he will be the only one there :) watching the movie alone.

Anyways, we went to watch the show "Army Daze" ... we thought it was a sequel to the previous movie... but we were wrong.. it was just digitally enhanced... oh wells, no wonder the price tag of $8, unlike usual weekend movie shows pricing.

After the movie, we had no idea where to go and what to do, so I told them to call Jeff to find out what was his original plan... but we didn't do it and went home after not knowing what to do.

Instead of going home, I took MRT to my grandparents' house.

Nothing much went on this weekend, so there is nothing to post about.

Chapter 375: Bugis

On a Saturday, finally, I no longer have to worry about driving lessons at all... no longer have to worry that I will hit the kerb or do anything funny that pisses off instructors.. What a good feeling it was! I went out 10 mins later than my planned timing in anticipation that the people I'm going to meet will be late. In the end, I still reached my destination 20 mins early -.-
While waiting for my friends, this weird guy from country X started to walk to me and talk to me... He asked me if it was far from Woodlands to Bugis. Then he carried on chatting with me about his activities like cycling, eating steamboat, etc.. and he asks if I do those as well?! And he asked about my life, what I'm doing currently etc... as if I knew him damn well already. He even wanted to give me his number so we can go out together next time... I was like wth?

So, I immediately picked up my phone and went to call all the people I'm meeting, seeing if they reach and hoped/wished/prayed they would hurry up to save me from this distress. Binghui says that he is still at Sengkang.. Best.
Yian says he is at Tanjong Pagar MRT station.. not so bad.. 2 more stops.
Jac says she will be a little late.

Damn, all late...

Luckily, his friends came at that time and then, he finally leaves me alone.. thankfully. After a short while, yian arrived. We then chatted for quite some while... while Jac was lost, trying to find her way down -.- Then, we went to walk around while waiting for Bh.
We then went to eat at some shop selling BBQ food. Jac says that this stall sells nice food only at night. But the best thing is that the menu is the same 24/7.
The BBQ food are all put together in sticks. Quite unique.
But most of the food taste like the sauce... and it isn't nice.
Anyways, would like to thank the highest income guy for treating us.

We then went to play 1 hour of LAN. We played left for dead. (L4D)

After that, we went to eat dinner at Pastamania. And then, we went home after that.

What a nice way to spend my Saturday, rather than in a car at CDC vicinity.

Chapter 374: Closing the chapter

After 7-8 months, I'm finally able to close this journey of driving. It has been tough, tiring, yet sometimes fun for me throughout these months. Very soon since I embarked on driving practical lessons, I got sick and tired of learning driving.. at some point in time, I even felt like giving up.. but I didn't tell anybody of it because of the money, effort and time involved in it. Driving lessons become dreaded...
Converting from learning manual to auto was something that I do not wish to do at all... I think it is a plain waste of money and time as well... and also... pride.
Eventually, I got somewhat used to changing my gears all the while... and even started to enjoy doing the gear shifting abit haha.

Another aspect that I struggled with was the crank course. The wheels seem to routinely hit up with the kerb. This was drastically improved after taking my first (and one and only) auto lesson. Auto lesson allows me to maneuver the crank course without the need to step on the accelerator and only through the control of 1 pedal - the brake. (Manual driving of crank course requires the use of 2-3 pedals depending on the speed of travel.) Autocar lets me truly understand the meaning of "low speed control", and how does "low speed" feels like. That is when I started to demonstrate "low speed control", something I struggled alot with throughout my lessons...

Eventually, I got used to driving the manual vehicle... and my test date comes... I was nervous all the way from 1 day before... My warmup wasn't all too good as well... having failed to check back windscreen before reversing, fail to interact with other road users (namely pedestrians.), and worst of all - vehicle rolling back on slope on the way back to CDC (not the slope course)...

But still, the test has to be taken in 10 mins time from that time after the warmup...

I just waited inside a room for the tester to arrive.. where there were a few testees there, earlier than me.. More testees also came in moments later. The best thing is that the first Tester/Examiner to come in called my name... I was first to be led out...

So, I brought my tester to my vehicle and started the engine, did the necessary adjustments (to seat and mirrors). He went to charge his tablet (used for the Traffic Police Test) in the car. So I drove off!

I went first to the directional change course. All was perfect ... then. Then, I was asked to proceed to do the S course. No kerb struck - perfect! 2 courses down at the moment. Then I went on to do my slope. Before entering the slope course, I did not position my vehicle properly due to the nature of the positions of the S and slope courses... and damn! I realised my vehicle wasn't straight - I was obstructing cross traffic.. I saw a tick on the tester's tablet... beside it lies a figure... 6 .. omg, 6 points in a bang! (for obstructing cross traffic.) I knew this was a mistake, but I couldn't correct it at that situation... My slope went fine too. And then came the parallel parking. Was fine too - 2 points for the turning of steering wheel when vehicle stationary (something my instructor wanted me to get, in order to get accurate turning points. So that's fine.)

I then did my crank course and vertical parking courses. (can't remember which one came first.) Crank course was good, thankfully, no routine kerb striking. Vertical parking was ok after doing some advance correction.

When almost exiting the circuit, I remember earlier on... the tester told me that tapping on the dashboard means emergency brake. And then, I went to the area where testers love to test emergency brake... I looked at my rear mirror... Damn, there were no cars behind me... probability of me getting an emergency brake tested... 99%. So, I was prepared. Then, my tester raised his hand. I took a deep breath, prepared to throw my accelerator pedal away and spam all my strength on the brake pedal, with my left foot ready to hit the clutch pedal shortly after..

The tester's hand did not went to the dashboard. Instead, he pointed infront and said "turn left and exit the circuit." I stunned a little, regained some composure, and carried on with my down gearing to gear 1 before exiting the circuit... I was just that close to doing an emergency brake... and he didnt tell me to do it... I thought he would slam the dashboard with his hand, but he pointed infront instead... luckily, I didn't pre-empt him and slam my brakes... orelse, I am owned totally.
Now I feel trolled.

Outside road wasn't better.. stress and nervousness get the better of me as soon as I made my first mistake. Some turns feel weird... somehow, I couldn't tell. There was this epic situation where I thought I got an immediate failure when I crossed the stop line when the green arrow was flashing.... and when the green arrow was gone... I still haven't cross my stop line.... thanks to the slow driver ahead of me... I thought third party factors was the reason I would fail this test...

This is the turning point, where nervousness hit level 100 (max), and I feel sad and moody, thinking that I have failed and flopped this test already... And then another epic incident came -.- Why? Why on my test?

An old man was pushing a cart full with paper boxes (or cardboards rather.) He was walking infront of me on the road.... and I approached the traffic light junction. I kept some distance from him as he stopped on the road, behind the stop line, at traffic light junction... He thought he was a vehicle as well... The green man came and he still didn't walk. I panicked... why isn't he moving, I thought. I am also afraid that he will still not move when the green light is on... Then, the green arrow come on... I couldn't turn left as he is freaking infront of me... obstructing my car.. he should get 6 points for that as well. Then the green light came. Moment of truth.

He walked! He really treat himself as a vehicle. That was when I finally managed to turn left. Then I drove all the way back to CDC. Walked out of the vehicle, moody. Saw my instructor outside the car and he was telling me "Good luck." I didn't tell him I thought I failed.. I was still hoping and praying for a miracle pass.

I went upstairs with the tester. He printed the result in a very long time. Other testers who came in later already started talking to the testees... When he was placing my result slip down, I glanced and saw one word - "PASSED". I didn't know if I see it correctly... it was facing down after he placed the slip down. The list of mistakes was long... so, I'm still worried that I still fail and the word "passed" was seen wrongly.

He told me that the green arrow incident just now was 50-50 situation... I passed the stop line when the green light was yet to flash... when I pass abit, it started to flash... And then, when the arrow was gone, the back of my vehicle has yet to cross the stop line.... but stopping there would prove too dangerous... so I decided to cross it anyways... and he said that was the right thing to do... If only the vehicle ahead of me wasn't slow moving, none of this would have happened... haiz.
So, he didnt give me any points for that thankfully.

He said after that, "After this, go and watch the safety video and apply for your license." I was elated. The words "apply for your license" implied that I have made it! Finally. No more driving lessons. No more revisions. No need to book more lessons, no need to rebook test date.. no more coming to CDC!

I went to take the queue number for applying driving license, and then went to collect my driving booklet from the warmup room first. I then went back to the queue... still have 2 more people before me... thankfully, I made the decision to collect my driving booklet first... While waiting, one guy next to me asked me if he took the correct queue number. It was in the same category as mine.. but he said that he has just passed his basic theory test... So, I told him that that wasnt the queue to apply for Provisional Driving License (PDL)... The queue he took was for those who finished the practical driving test... He was stunned. So, I helped him get the correct queue number.. he said that he should try his luck with his former queue ticket... I doubt he will make it though.

Then, one woman next to him (from China) asked me the same thing too... and she got it all wrong too, like this guy I just spoke to... and she and her friends went to retake the queue numbers....
After applying, I went to watch the safety video, which was full of gore images... before I receive my temporary driving license!

And that marks the end of this journey!

Chapter 373:

Got bitten several times by mosquito(es?) today.. got 6 on my elbow on 1 hand, 1 on the other and 1 on my leg... argh. I just hope those are normal mosquitoes and are not aedes (touch wood).
Got insect repellent ready for tomorrow, before their onslaught tmr against me again. Hope its super effective against the mosquitoes.

I just realised that I left out 1 part on the CNY post. We had bee hoon for lunch at my grandparents' place and my dad found rubber bands inside the bee hoon he was eating...
Later on, when my mum was looking for a rubber band and asking (my relatives) around for it, I just asked my mum to find it in the bee hoon, it's not that hard to find it.

Glad that Man Utd managed to overcome Reading 2-1 in the FA cup to progress into the next round where they'll face either Middlesborough or Chelsea. Hope they can clinch the cup...

Quite sad that I'm unable to get hold of the tickets to Jay Chou concert coming June... haiz. The selling of the tickets is at 10am today... which is impossible for me to get due to work... and then there is the queue to endure... and the need to queue earlier or risk a sold out situation... So, my dad tried to ask his friend if he could get some tickets... and my cousin tried to buy it online... but to no avail.. haiz. Queuing is something I really do not like.. no chance I guess
