Chapter 260: Famine Camp, hungry for a better world

How do you get more than 1 vote in the General Elections?

Friday marks the start of the famine camp. Woke up early and my dad drove me, bh and sam to Ngee Ann Poly. Went in to the Convention Centre and waited for the registration to open. Registration opens shortly after and we went to queue separately due to separate countries. Got my log book, bag tag, etc etc and set off to collect the shirts. Went to change and deposited the bags. Went to the Makan Place.

Yian came and we discovered that his shirt size is oversized for him LOL. We also noticed that we had a role assigned in our "Identity Card". Yian got adult while bh got child, ironies in life. We wanted to wait till the eleventh hour (literally) before buying food, as camp kickstarts at 12 noon and from then on, no food for 30 WHOOPING hours!!!
So we queued, and I bought some rice with chicken and egg (which isn't chicken rice but some Jap food.)
Bought drinks, went to toilet before heading for the camp.

Went into Convention Centre for the Opening Ceremony. We then sorted into our groups. My group is Laos - Worra.
The first activity is called "Welcome to the REAL world". This is where we simulate the real life in third world countries. Some of us went to seek education level 1, but the crowd was overwhelming... we waited and waited and waited... till the cows come home. We were almost there before the school "collapsed", phase 1 ended and our efforts have gone down the drain as we did nothing practically... 1 of my group mate, Bryson was smart enough to get a tailoring job to get $2.

Phase 2 then begun and we decided to forgo the rubbish education system where cutting queues is needed to gain an education... So we went to work instead. We went for fishing for money!!
We get a rod with a hook and we are to hook plastic bags... and my hook just cannot connect to the plastic bag damn... I'm not born a fisherman, neither do I have the talent for it at alll.... so I went off empty-handed, efforts to vain, 3 less energy.. Moyra was good at this and got 2 plastic bags.. but she didnt know how to impart her fishing skills... so we went off with $10.

We then crossed the overhead bridge to a field where we got 3 energy for $2. We tried gambling and we won initially before losing and going back to square one. We queued for farming, only to realise that my group members are unable to take part due to injuries gotten at (fishing?) We then went to work at the Work Site instead... but by the time we reached our turn.. the game was over.. got paid anyways....

Ok, let me explain more about this game, there is education, working (gambling, prostitution, fishing, etc), hospital, AIDS, injuries, drug trafficking, etc ... and there are random people throwing (and giving) free money around ...

If random people giving free money are around in 3rd world countries, there wouldnt be so much problems there... so that part is failed simulation...

So, phase 2 ended and we proceed on to the next item, Group reflection and sharing.. went to the hall and they placed pictures of tombstones (or graves?) around.. simulating people (few group members) dying from hunger... We are then supposed to share our thoughts with one another... but luckily for me, I got chosen for the Dialogue in the Dark event along with 4 other group mates.

So we went for it, and ended up going there too early. We ended up playing games like ..( I dont know how to spell the name.. so just forget it.) For Dialogue in the Dark event, I belonged to India, and I went into the dark room.

Walking in with cane (for blind people, but I dont know how to use..) It was pure darkness, u cant see your hands infront of u... I was holding on to bh's shoulder then ( he somehow managed to sneak into here...) We are supposed to pick up materials from the ground and build a shelter.. but it was pitch darkness... how do we build... For this part, bh and I just sat there rooted... not searching for anything.. no one knows anyways as its PURE DARKNESS HAHA! In the end, we got a cardboard from someone and we just held it above our heads... no way to build without vision seriously... and that marks the end of that event.

Went back to the group for "A Day in a Child's Life". Due to the Dialogue in the Dark Event, we missed out on the part where we are simulating shoe polishing. So safe from the awkwardness lol. We are then "human trafficked." We are blindfolded, and asked to hold each other's shoulder. We are then ordered to squat down and we are taped around to secure more than 1 person tgt... it was very straining on the ankle...

We then played games like 老鹰抓小鸡, Chapteh.
We then did penmanship and origami.

For chapteh, one of my group mate, Stephane, tends to kick with excessive force and it was fly into someone's face LOL. For penmanship, we are asked to write with our non-dominant hand... at this moment I was wondering what Yi An's one will look like... (true enough..later someone [forgot who] told me that his handwriting for left and right hand has no distinction.
For origami, we folded a paper boat using an A4 paper... they keep repeating the steps of square and triangle.. it was easier to use a square paper instead!

We then went back to the Convention Centre for "Reality Bites" It was a talk by Nicole Gan, 15-year-old Singaporean child sponsor.
Some more events occured before we went for the day debrief.

Went to collect our bags and went to the sleeping area. It was rumoured to be haunted, so join me in this journey of the haunted! The lift was said to display that first. Whenever it reaches its destination floor, it will have a sound of the lift going off, before the door opens.. Went to the 5th floor. Went around exploring the rooms... for unlocked rooms to sleep in.. and then! Bryson went to the last classroom and he pushed a door. The lights went off immediately.. it was spooky.
We thought it was better not to go into that room...
Settled for another room.. we then went to seek out a toilet ( the closest toilet was near the last classroom, so we didnt dare to go in). We went down to the 4th floor, darkness reigns... So we gave up and went all the way down to the first floor in seek of a toilet LOL.
Found one and did whatever we're supposed to do before heading back to sleep.

Sleeping was a difficult ordeal for me... the floor was hard.. different sleeping positions didnt work as diff parts of the body have to endure tha pain... plus the coldness from the aircon was unbearable.. So I just lay down there from 12 to 3.45am before sleeping (i think, as i had a dream, which i cant rmb what it is.) Woke at around 7 when someone's alarm went off... and the best thing is that majority of the people still managed to continue sleeping away when the alarm is screaming at the top of its voice till it almost lost its voice...

First event was "Fish to Infinity" . It was an event where we must do planning. We have to plan on at least $2000 worth of things to give to third world countries (that ranges from building wells to providing education kits to giving them cows.) We also had to plan an event to raise funds.. (like concerts or etc etc.)

Next event was "ROMAS" (Reach Out and Make A Stand!) In this event, we are going to town! (Orchard) to take photos with members of the public, to raise awareness for our cause. There are prizes for the most creative shot, most number of shots with the public, best jump shot, etc.)
We did our jump shot and hoped to win as we thought it was quite creative.. but the judges think otherwise apparently..
We did our creative shot in the DRAIN! But were defeated by a photo that showed the word "30!" using people... like what...

Went back to Ngee Ann Poly, waited for the closing Ceremony. Went to find other classmates. We played some random games and the last game was to pass a coin around ( we're sitting in a circle) and the person in the centre was supposed to guess where the coin was... the last one was damn hilarious as random and numerous guesses are all wrong...
The mystery?
THERE WASNT EVEN A COIN PASSED AROUND TO BEGIN WITH LOL~!~!~~ APPARENTLY yian didnt pick up the coin from the floor when game starts..

Went back to the group, sat in Convention Centre and awaited the closing ceremony. Some random games by DJs, singings from some people that I dont know before the BREAK FAST! Had Nasi Lemak (ingredients: Rice, chicken wing, egg). It was marvellous! Everything there is something that I actually eat.. so it was jackpot for me and I finished it, first meal since famine camp started LOL. Somehow, I didnt really feel hungry throughout the camp.. and all of us survived on only liquid... (plain water, soya bean drink, etc) It does work well anyways...

And that marks the end of the 30 hour Famine Camp! We are hungry for a better world!

Chapter 259: NS Checkup

7am wake up in the morning (not singing Rebecca Black's Friday here... but...)
and I went to prepare myself.

Set off to pay a visit to CMPB.
Went to the canteen to take a drink of soya bean, while my dad ate something (which i could not recall)
I then entered the building and presented my completed questionnaire and IC.
I was redirected to the area where phototaking occurs.

To my alarm, the guy there says that the fringe shouldn't cover the forehead at all...and we are to comb it... it seems... (beyond the point where words can explain.)
Quickly took the photo and left for the next station.

The next station up was urine test. That was faster than I expected... thankfully, I had heed my cousin's advice and not urine before the whole test. Time to put the pee to good use. Took up a small bottle, when into the toilet and .. (shall not elaborate due to the fact that this page should be available to General Viewing.)
Did the urine test, showed the person the strip of paper and it was fine.

Went inner for a blood test. The first thing that the person asked me kinda surprised me a little. He asked "Do you play computer games?"
Me: "Yes"
Him: "What computer games do you play?"
Me: "Erm... warcraft 3"
Him: "Do you play counter strike?"
Me: "Erm.. last time I played it."
Him: "Not now anymore?"
Me: "Ya."
Him: "So you played counter strike 1.6?"
Me: "No, condition zero."
Him: "Oh, condition zero."
--- The rest of the conversation are blood test related.---
Before the injection of the needle, I could see my whole vein already lol.
Then he inserted the needle... it was more painful than I expected..
And he drew a syringe of blood.

Then there is this survey asking about their services.... Maybe that is why the guy chated with me LOL - to get imbalanced survey response... haha or maybe he wants to find people to play counter strike with him LOL. I played along and gave the best responses possible.. something I dont really do often..

--- The following tests to come are not in order (because I had forgotten the order...)---

Hearing Test: Went into an enclosed room, headphones on, supposed to raise hand upon hearing the sound... while everybody else outside stares on at you... The worse thing is that you keep raising your hand inside, and everyone seemed as if they are looking at a fool (who keeps raising up his hands...) ...

Eye Test: The staff scanned my spectacles.. and I was to read one line of alphabets as if I'm at the optician lol.. very quick process. Nothing much.

Teeth Test: You sit on a dental-type-of-chair and the "dentist" checks upon your teeth for any decay/missing/normal tooth..
The person infront of me didnt fare too well with some "missing teeth" and abit "decay"
As for me, the person keeps saying the same thing "undecay" over and over until the whole check is over. And here we go all over again.

X-ray Test: Take off shirt and lie in front of smth to scan the top part of the body and thats it.

--- I can't remember any more tests except the medical screening at the last part---

Medical screening station requires us to take off the shirt again and our socks and shoes...

Speaking of this... many people did not follow the instructions and they didnt really bother...
first of all, the hair was supposed to be neat and clean ... and then you see people with hair that can be used to mop the floor when inverted.
Next, they said NO SLIPPERS ARE ALLOWED. Guess what?
Next, isnt there supposed to be no camera phones... and I saw one guy playing away with the iphone -.-

Ok, back to the screening. 1st of all, height and weight. Then blood pressure. Then came this PCG thing which I dont know what that is... and is too lazy to google it.
They just use alot of clip-like-things to clip your legs, hands, chest.. and dont knw what they checking. Then went to see the Medical Officer (MO).

First thing he said was "please move to the corner over there." And then.... "please take off your pants and underwear to the knee-level." After looking for 1-2 seconds, he asked me to wear my pants back. Ok.. nothing much to elaborate here.

The last station was the Vocational Assessment, which is a series of 11 modules of testing via computer. It is said to take the longest time.. around 2-3 hours.
Went in straightaway as no one was waiting outside :)

Did the 11 modules which comprises of:
1. Patterns for symbols... the triangles, circles, squares confuse me.
2. Number patterns... some numbers dont even seem to have a pattern :X
3. Algebra ... and no calculators?! Calculating quadratic equations with fractional coefficients proved to be the worst hit to me :X
4. Linking related words together... this is damn hard la. Guessing game -.-
5. Physics ... wth I don't take this anymore...
6-8. etc
9/10. Agree/Disagree with a series of leadership questions.
11. Survey

This whole series of test is mind-boggling and is seriously damn difficult... it probably takes a genius like yian to do it and pawn them up down left right center. Haiz.

Left the premises.

And thats about it.

If you are wondering where is the random joke of the post, here it is!

Chapter 258:

A boy walked into a shop, looking everywhere. The shopkeeper approaches and asked him, "Hi, may I help you? What are you looking for?"
The boy replied, "I am looking for my mother."

I hate to repeat this 1 million times but I'm still gonna do so.. I really hate the MYCT that is coming up... its destroying my holidays!!!

I will try my best to blog about the coming NS checkup, the coming famine camp during the holidays... cause I will be using less or even not at all of the computer.. so might need to employ my phone to do it ... All thanks to MYCT.

And without the EPL matches, there wont be weekend reviews most likely...

Ok it seems I am running out of ideas of what to write.. so farewell.

Chapter 257: 2nd week of Holidays

In a marriage proposal, a man said to the woman, "Let fate decide whether we should get married. Here is a coin, I will toss it up, Heads, you shall marry me, Tails, I will marry you." *Tosses the coin*

And here we are into the second week of the holidays...
Coming up are the NS Check up (for me), Famine Camp and the LEGENDARY AJC MYCT 2011 for JC2s.

I guess I will start studying in the last 2 weeks and spend my time doing hmwk and playing this week LOL. I hope this strategy works out fine...

All the 3 events coming up are scary..

NS Checkup: I'm afraid of getting PES A seriously...
Famine Camp: I'm afraid of the need to make friends... I'm just too shy to.. I need ppl to speak to me first.. argh. 1 more thing! I hope I dont faint :/
MYCT: Exams. Need I say more?

Chapter 256: Siansation

There was this Maths Question about Bears living in an area and eating bamboo shoots. The question expected us to calculate things regarding the population of the bears. The last part of the question asked: "What assumption is needed to be made?"
One of my friends just wrote: "All the bears are pandas."

Went out on Friday to Long John Silvers @ Rivervale Mall to do Maths with Binghui. I ate 3 pcs chicken. So we ventured out to do maths. We completed 8 questions in a very long span of time.. which was unacceptable during exams... the AJC mid year paper is just that tough. :X In the exams, when no answers are provided, the situation is likely to be much worse :X

And seriously, I just hate it when holidays are supposed to be for studying and homework... holidays seriously needs to be taken as rest period...
Thinking of exams, thinking of studying, I just feel sian, sian and sian every single day, every single time, every single place, anytime, anywhere.

NS Checkup coming up in week 3 of the holidays... In exams, we strive for the best, in this checkup, we strive for the worst... the mentality is that PES A is the worst.. lots of physical? tiresome.

Somehow some weird feeling tells u everybody is studying.. and that increases ur stress levels..

Chapter 255: The battle against Inertia

Before we begin, lets roll the questionnaire!

Question: How does a driver drives at very fast speeds everytime without getting caught by the traffic police?

Once again, its the time to fight against the inertia for studying.. it seems difficult. Very hard to switch back to study mode... I'm now into holiday mode damn..

And finally no more of going to sch during the June Holidays!

Ok there isn't really anything left for me to post about... so bye.
