Chapter 269: Week 5

Friday, as I packed my bag yesterday, I took out my Bio TYS by mistake, and ended up forgetting to bring it to sch today... During bio lecture, I was hoping I dont get called to answer questions. Thankfully, we started off with some random questions. Then the teacher asked for the role of mesosome. We were allowed to google it (or you can choose to yian it.) with our phones that are smart.
So we did and my friend and I got called to answer that question. I said a correct explanation for mesosome, and the teacher said that I was a good student.. (little did he know that I forgot to bring Bio TYS to college.)

GP lecture must be a conspiracy. I got called to answer a question last week and I got called today again... According to Teck Chuan, they must have highlighted my name in the paper of attendance list...
Or maybe because its a rather (common?) christian name? and (easy?) to call?

During Bio remedial, my teacher told us a phrase that will make happy people sad, and sad people happy.
What do you think it is?


And I'm happy that Singapore made it to the 3rd round of World Cup qualifiers for 2014 by winning Malaysia 6-4 on aggregate.

Chapter 268: Compound Discovery

The school system finally records the CIP hours for famine camp!
BUT they gave us 24 hours CIP for 30 hours Famine Camp, what irony.

Had a one-to-one tuition yesterday with my GP teacher. It was rather scary lol. She gave me 2 pieces of newspapers from "Today" to read. She requests that I photocopy it and return them to her pigeon hole. The problem is that the photocopy services at bookshop is terrible, they suck at photocopying newspapers bigger than A4 size....
The problem at block 11 is that you need a photocopying card to photocopy stuff -.-

So I decided to try my luck with the block 11 aunty. Thankfully, she is willing to make an exception and help me photocopy the newspapers... That was nice, something not to be expected from the bookshop.

Today, we had Chemistry mock paper. It was last year's A Level Chemistry paper, with the ultramost difficult questions, that make people sweat like never before, that made it into the newspapers last year for its notoriousity in toughness.
And today, we finally got a taste of it and finally comprehended the feelings of the seniors...
There was this question where I learnt about a new compound. I cant remember the name of the compound, so I decided to name it myself. I call the group (-OMgBr) in the compound, the "Bromo-ohmygod group"
By the way the question is about Grignard's reaction.

Chapter 267: PTM & Polyclinic

In case you are wondering, PTM stands for Parent-Teacher Meeting.

In case you are wondering (again), PTM and Polyclinic are 2 separate entities which are of no correlation at all... They're linked at the title as these 2 issues shall be the main focus of this post.

PTM is a legendary affair in every school. Parents and students react very differently to this. Some children turn into an angel overnight (for one day and only one day, which is before PTM), some simply do not bother, etc etc... As for me, I just hope that the teachers wont badmouth about me.

Well, after meeting the teachers, the general consensus from the teachers are that I am too quiet in class... and I lack self confidence.
Well, being quiet? Cause I dont really like to answer questions and I fear answering questions wrongly... well that brings me to the point of lacking self-confidence. But sometimes I really not sure whether the answer is correct or not, and 60% of the time, my answer will be wrong.. When I am confident of an answer to that particular question, teachers just dont ask me that question. They'll wait till a question that is 50-50 or clueless to me... then they'll choose to ask me ...

And Mrs Ong really told my parents about me staring blankly at her when she asked me a question in which I am unsure of...

Since there need to be a balance to every essay to pass GP, I will attempt to balance my points here. The positive sides. The teachers have faith in me, they believe I can do well. They told my parents not to worry and I could do well in the A levels... They are stressing me and worrying me by saying this... But I hope I dont disappoint...

Now to move on to the Polyclinic part. I visited it for my pimples problem on my back. But thats not the main point.
The point is that there is a long waiting time... probably (or should i say definitely?) due to the cheap cost of it.

In the polyclinic, I can hear people speaking on the phone. 95% of the time, they will lament the long waiting time... (Well, what my GP teacher said was right. Polyclinics have long waiting time and they're cheap. If you want a shorter waiting time, private clinics are the right paths to take.)
There are also people complaining that the "numbers anyhow jump"... and in one instance, someone said that the "numbers go gostan (reverse)" (Obviously, a puzzled look appeared on my face at that instance.) Like since when the numbers go reversed....

I think that polyclinics function in a way that they assign (queue) numbers to each room. Like there is room A,B,C for consultations and 12 people visitng.
Room A will get person 1,4,7,10
Room B will get person 2,5,8,11
Room C will get person 3,6,9,12
But the doctors operate at different speeds (also factoring in the conditions of the patients of course.)
So lets say if the doc from room C is fast, the numbers will go like: 1,2,3,6,9,12
Ppl complain that the number jumped, in actual fact, it is going in the sequence of 3,6,9,12 for the doc in room C...

Hopefully, you got enlightened about the functions of the polyclinic. Rest assured this question will not appear in your exam paper and neither am I going to test you about it.

So I got antibiotics for my pimples problem. Hopefully it will go milder and milder, so the itch dont kill me.

Chapter 266: School Life

Travelling home from sch with bh, and he suddenly pointed to a private jet in the sky.
Bh said that that plane must be yian's one. He must be inside that plane. Rich kid.
Then I told him that yian had finally discovered that the East side of Singapore is the best place to be (in comparison to the West.) So he took this plane to find us and discover our wonderful place (Sengkang) :)
However, our place doesnt have much empty land for plane to land. It can only take off and land in his area, where there are lots of barren land (a.k.a. desert).

Economics mock test was difficult, hopes are almost 0.

And finally, there is no more cca sessions for me.
And finally, afternoon PE has come to an end, leaving morning PE for softball!
It's quite a nice game, really.

And there is Parent Teacher Meeting (PTM) tomorrow, I wish the teacher dont badmouth about me (not that I have any bad things to talk about besides being quiet in class, or is that even considered a bad thing?)

Chapter 265: Hectic

Just realised I hadnt been posting for quite a long time due to hectic school schedules..the remedials, studies, tests, homework etc etc...

Results are not good.. worse than my expectations..
Many occasions you just wish you have yian's brain. Natural intelligence and smartness.. with abit more hardwork put in, perfection is within reach.

Since I'm flooded by studies recently this whole week, I dont really have any things much to report about ...

Chapter 264: Fun Pack

Ok, joking, this isnt about the fun pack song. Its about NLZZ Times!

My chem teacher went thru the chem answers for mcq. And as I didnt write down the options on my qn paper... i didnt know how much i got...
But that is not the main focus, the main focus is at one of the questions..
There were this option that says "16g Methanol"
And I wrote there "CH2OH"

Obviously, the panic has made me wrote the formula wrongly, it should be "CH3OH" Due to this, I thought that this option was wrong. So I chose the option that says the other 2 options are correct and this is wrong.
And it turned out that my careless mistake became a blessing in disguise :)
The answer was ACTUALLY WRONG AS METHANOL IS NOT A GAS! But I thought it was wrong because of the miscalculated Molecular mass from my above formula LOL.

During PE lesson, my teacher said that in running, the true enemy is yourself.
So I thought that if we killed ourselves, we would have won cause we're killing the enemy.
Oh, and I lent the teacher my watch, but he didnt give me any bonuses (like giving me extra 30 secs to complete the run..)
Bh was insisting that the teacher let us play basketball during PE.
So the teacher said "You want play 5 on 5 on 5 on 5 ah?"
Bh replied "ya"
The teacher replied "If I'm not a teacher, I would have shown u the finger."
LOL

My GP teacher was talking about the reasons why longevity could be a blessing, and why it could be a concern.
I have the perfect answer to how longevity could be a blessing!
So as to achieve the Guinness Book of Records for the longest age!

My friend, wm, accidentally burnt a small portion of the menu at Jack's Place. I told him to raise up his hand and tell the waiter that there is something wrong with his menu and he should demand a replacement of the menu.

Chapter 263: Career Guidance

I think my school offers a nice deal, $65/day for a student to come back to mark Maths MYCT paper. Mr Ong told us he got to mark the question on Mathematical Induction, and of course he did mention about Yian's terrible handwriting LOL.

Basically, today yian is supposed to be "sick". So he dint come to sch.
So we started off the event with sharing and Q&A with ex-AJ students who are "successful". The location? Oh, we had it in the oven. Or was it the furnace?
Basically, the place is devoid of aircon...

Then came the Cohort in Conversation where we shared opinions about certain career-related questions before reflections.

Then we had bio. We went thru the MYCT MCQ for Bio... the marking was fast but our progress was slow. We are "disappointing" to the teachers... haiz, shall spare elaboration. Demoralising. And that made me miss the chance to attend the Festival of Life and that means one less thing to write for my SGC :(

And we are gonna have Bio test on Diversity and Evolution and Nervous control tmr...

Chapter 262: Mid Year Exams Review

Today, while shopping at Kovan, I saw this advert "1+1=1, buy 2 for the price of 1."
It is a flawed advert cause 1+1 isnt 1, and by using that given equation, I can pay less.
Lets say I want to purchase something that costs $8
$8 = $(1+1)+(1+1)+(1+1)+(1+1)
Since 1+1 = 1,
$(1+1)+(1+1)+(1+1)+(1+1) = $ 1+1+1+1
= $ (1+1) + (1+1)
Using the same formula above,
$ (1+1) + (1+1) = $1+1
= $ (1+1)
= $ 1
Therefore, I can buy something that costs $8 in that shop for $1 based on the above given formula of 1+1=1.

Ok back to Mid Years.
It started off with GP.
GP Paper 1 - I did the question on religion. As it is a sensitive issue, I shall not elaborate anything here.
GP Paper 2 - It was about doing good things like donations? It was quite ok I thought.

Hope to pass GP.

Next day came the Econs paper. The first case study was on Water resources and it seems very unlinked with the econs concepts that we learned... so I think its hard.
Second case study is on case study, should do much better, though not very good.

Third day was the toughest and "killer" day. Maths paper plus Bio paper 2.
Maths was a killer paper... one of the toughest paper in many years. And once again, the Legendary AJC Maths Paper set by Legendary Teachers have pawned up straight in our face, left right center up down center.
Moderation is much needed here i suppose... and I think a moderation by multiplication of 2 of the marks would be logical since passing is a tedious affair.
For those imbalanced talents who scores imbalanced A grades for that paper should have their marks divided by 2 during moderation as they are expected to do better.

Bio was average i suppose... with some hard questions of course..

4th day came the Chemistry paper. Paper 1 of MCQ was a guessing game and adrenaline rush test (like always). Paper 2 was abit difficult i suppose?

Last day was the best. Bio MCQ - strangely 1 hr 15 mins for bio mcq and only 1 hr for chem, when chem has many calculations-heavy questions... I just dont get the logic behind it, maybe it defies logic.

Maths stats paper was quite ok i suppose. Strange to throw in one random differentiation question from nowhere...

And after that paper, we went to watch a movie, details are at the previous chapter below...

The introduction song from the Cartoon "Phineas and Ferb" goes like this...
"There's a 104 days in summer vacation, when school comes around just to end there, and the annual problem for our generation is finding a good way to spend.."
My reaction to this was "What the hell, are you freaking serious?!"

And then... I wondered why doesnt Phineas and Ferb have any homework or CCA stuffs -.-

Chapter 261: Yian's most expensive movie

Yian, me and matthew went to the movies at AMK today. We reached there early to purchase 3 tickets for the show "Transformers" in 3D. Yian happily offered to keep the tickets so I shall just leave it and trust him for once.
We then went to the coffee shop to eat lunch. I ordered chicken cutlet, it was a piece of chicken with soup and rice. $3.90 only.
Then, Darren called me and asked me to hang out with him, but I got to reject him sadly cause the tickets were bought already.
After the movie tickets, yian was broke and he needed $. So we went around AMK hunting for an ATM for POSB. We found it at last and he withdrew money.
We then bought drinks at Cheers. Thanks to yian for the treat.
We then hurried up to the cinema at 1.40pm sharp. And guess what?

Yian lost the tickets.

With the sian-est face ever and the temptation to swear, he queued again (with us). He passed me the $42 for the tickets and didn't dare to touch the tickets or money anymore LOL. So at the end of the day, he spent $56 watching transformers in 3D. It's the most expensive movie he had ever watched, so we asked him to savour every moment and he die die MUST enjoy the movie or he might cry and kill matt for suggesting to watch it in 3D LOL.
We were also joking what if he found the tickets later at home LOL.

Oh, and Matt says he likes to see the advertisements before the movie, so if we missed it, we will ask yian to treat us to the movie a second time. And at this time, after watching the advertisements, we will leave before the show starts LOL.

Overall, it was a very nice show, one of the best i have watched.

Update: I have eaten my 3rd meal of fish after eating fish in a relative's wedding dinner.

P.S. Update on examinations review will be on the next chapter. Meanwhile, its time to party tonight!
